Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions families in Brampton ask most often before getting started with TutorWise.

About Our Sessions

How are sessions structured?

Sessions run in small groups at our Brampton location. The structure keeps the environment focused while still allowing each student to receive individualized attention on their own subject material and goals. Students are not expected to follow the group's pace — within each session, the tutor works with each student on what they specifically need. This is not a classroom. It's a structured learning environment with room for real, personalized support.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are typically one hour. We recommend a frequency based on the student's specific situation — how much ground needs to be covered, how quickly they're progressing, and what the family's schedule allows. We keep this flexible and adjust as the student's needs change.

Where do sessions take place?

All sessions are held in person at our Brampton location: 14 Automatic Rd, Unit 32, Brampton, ON L6S 5N5. This is a dedicated learning space — not a home operation. Parking is available on site.

How will I know my child is making progress?

Often the results speak for themselves. Families typically start noticing it in how their child approaches homework, how much more independently they're working, how they perform on tests, and in the confidence they bring to subjects that used to cause daily battles. We also track progress and communicate with you regularly. If the approach needs adjusting, we'll bring it to you — not the other way around.

Getting Started

How much do sessions cost?

Pricing depends on frequency and program. We go through this in detail during the free consultation call so you have a clear picture before committing to anything.

How do I get started?

Call us at 416-619-0043, send us an email at info@tutorwise.ca, or book a free 15-minute call through our Calendly link. We'll have a conversation about your child's situation and figure out the right next step together.

What happens at the initial assessment?

Before sessions begin, your child comes in for an in-person assessment at our Brampton location. Parents come in for this visit — it's not just a test for the student. We identify the current level in the relevant subjects, find out where the gaps are, and get a sense of how your child approaches problems. We then walk parents through what we're seeing, what we'd recommend, and how the program works. We also go through our policies and answer any questions before sessions begin.

Can you help with more than one subject?

Yes. Many students work with us on multiple subjects. We coordinate the scheduling and make sure each subject gets adequate time based on where the gaps are and what the priorities are for that student.

Subjects and Grade Levels

What grade levels do you support?

We work with students from Kindergarten through Grade 12, including the fully destreamed Grade 9 curriculum and the pathway-based structure in Grades 10–12 (university, college, mixed, and open courses). If you're unsure whether we can help with a specific grade or course, just ask.

What subjects do you offer?

We cover mathematics (K–12), English and literacy, science (biology, chemistry, physics), IEP support, ESL support, exam preparation (EQAO, OSSLT), study skills, and academic pathway support including IB program and SHSM coursework. See our Services page for a full breakdown.

Do you follow the Ontario curriculum?

Yes. Our tutors understand Ontario curriculum expectations at each grade level, including the destreamed Grade 9 curriculum introduced in 2021 and the university, college, mixed, and open pathway structure in Grades 10–12. We connect what we're teaching directly to what students are being assessed on at school.

IEP and ESL Support

Do you work with students who have IEPs?

Yes. We have supported many students with Individual Education Plans. We ask parents to share the IEP so we understand what accommodations are in place and what the school is working toward. Our tutors adapt instruction accordingly and keep parents updated on specific observations that can be useful at school review meetings. In some cases, we have also supported families in communicating with schools about IEP adjustments or accommodation enforcement — helping parents understand what to document and what to ask for before going into a review.

Do you offer ESL support?

Yes. We support English language learners at all grade levels and proficiency levels — vocabulary, reading, writing, grammar, and spoken English, all connected to what students are expected to do in school. We pace instruction to the student's current level and build from there.

Scheduling and Logistics

How flexible is the schedule?

We build your child's schedule around what works for your family. Availability varies — call or book a time and we'll go over current openings and find a slot that fits.

What if my child misses a session?

Let us know as early as possible. Makeup sessions are available when appropriate. We handle this on a case-by-case basis and work with families to keep the learning plan on track.

Do you offer sessions during the summer?

Yes, and summer can be one of the best times to start. With no school schedule competing for attention, students have more room to focus. It's an effective time to close gaps before the next year, get ahead in a subject that's been a struggle, or build the study skills that tend to make a big difference come September.
